The River Run is an annual event for the Inverell East Rotary Club, and organiser Alistair Williams said 321 participants laced up their runners this year, over the 280 who took part in 2013.
Overall winner of the 9.6 km run was Inverell’s Callum Dolby (33.26) who took out the 4.6 km race last year, won the 9.6 in 2012 and the 4.6 in 2011. Another repeat performance was delivered by Barraba runner Angela Groll (42.05) who won the women’s 9.6 km distance this year and last year.
In the 4.6 km race, Matthew Campion of Glen Innes came in first (16.34) with the women’s winner Jess Partridge not far behind with 21.56.
Hamish Mighelli finished the 2.5 km race in 9.48 and the first woman across the line was Maggie O’Brien at 12.27. Both runners hail from Inverell.
Alistair said timing the race with the Sunday markets meant there was something for everybody. He added that as usual, there was great support to make the event happen.
“The Clontarf boys helped with the water stations and a lot of the members of Inverell East Rotary had jobs, and we had a lot of outside help,” Alistair said.
The Sapphire City River Run finds raised will be applied to the Rotary Health initiative.
