Inverell salon Look Sharp in the Byron Arcade has launched an eye-opening way to support the Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon Day on October 27.
Owner Sam Cox said she wanted to do something to support those with breast cancer, and a family member suggested a ‘pimped bra’ competition. Sam was intrigued.
“We kind of had a look and (thought), ’That’s a really cool idea; it’s creative, it’s fun, it’s cheeky.’
“It grabs your eye as soon as you walk in the plaza. And people walk up and have a look and they’re not embarrassed by it, which is nice, they sort of come over and check it all out,” Sam said.
Women and girls are invited to bring in a new bra or halter top, decorate it in the theme of breast cancer awareness, or anything that captures the imagination. Entries are $10 each and all proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Council.
As an extra perk and thank you from the salon, entrants will receive a voucher for a free Look Sharp service at their next appointment. Sam said invited two customers who are breast cancer survivors to judge the main prize, a $500 gift basket of L’Oreal products, donated by the company.
“When I asked the ladies who had suffered if they wanted to judge it (they were) over the moon. It can be such a down time but to bring a bit of awareness and not be scared to talk about it, which is lovely,” Sam said.
Entries are accepted until Saturday and the entries will be judged next Monday.. Details are at the shop or find them on Facebook: Look Sharp Hair Studio Inverell.
