The Inverell Public Library has launched the popular 2014 Junior Reading Challenge for their young members. There are three age groups eligible for prizes: kinder to year 2; years 3 and 4; and years 5 and 6.
Books must be read between October 10 and December 12, and borrowed on the participant’s library card. Though there are many prizes on offer, all entries will go into a draw for an iPad Mini. The draw and awards will be presented at an afternoon tea on Thursday, December 16.
The winner of the iPad Mini must be present at the tea. If not, successive names will be drawn until a child in attendance is announced.
Children’s services librarian Leanne Schuhmacher said the more complex the book, or activity, the greater the number of potential entries per child.
She said she ties the annual reading challenge to the annual Book Week theme. The 2014 theme was ‘Connect to Reading’. Leanne said the challenge would approach from three ways.
“We connect with books, we connect with people and we connect with the world around us, so in each of those categories, they’re reading a book, but there’s different ways they can earn additional entries,” she said.
