“As far as I’m concerned it was a very successful event,” club president John McMaster said.
Mr McMaster said the event is close to passing the half-century milestone.
This year marked the second year the event has spilled over into the basketball pavilion at the Inverell Showground and the first time it has run over three days.
Mr McMaster said while numbers were slightly down in previous years, the Gem Fest has been cemented as a prominent date in the local calendar.
“It was the first year we ran over Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Mr McMaster said.
“Sunday went particularly well. The traders were very happy.”
He said the free entry to the showground for the event meant it was difficult to estimate attending numbers, but both traders and attendees were pleased to see a wide variety of minerals, fossicking and faceting attractions.
“It’s our major fundraiser for the year,” Mr McMaster said. The annual event drew attendees and traders from Queensland and the east coast with local gem seekers dubbing the Sapphire City Festival a great success.
