The plot concerns the coming of age for a boy named Mort who has a personality unsuited for the family farm. Encouraged to find other work at a job fair, Mort stumbles into an apprenticeship with a very eccentric Death.
The young man’s decisions could alter the Discworld forever. Along the way the audience encounters a myriad of unforgettable characters.
It is 16-year-old Brendan Evans’ first production since the Inverell High School musical Fame earlier this year. He said he is getting comfortable with his role as the lead character, Mort.
“Mort is a very awkward person and as the play (develops), he grows up to be a proper adult person working and it’s tricky, but I’m getting on with it,” he said.
Nigel Smith is a relative newcomer to Inverell, but an old hand on stage with theatre experience in the past.
He found out about the theatre group and asked for a call if an opportunity to act arose.
“We’re starting up and it’s new, so some of the people haven’t really been involved before, and there’s an enthusiasm amongst the people there,” he said.
“Having fun, having fun,” he chuckled.
Director Chris Hall said the cast have embraced their characters.
“They’ve been growing in their parts really well, and developing them,” Chris said, and promised a visual treat from costumier Olga George.
All productions of Mort begin at 7.30pm at the Beaulieu Hall on the Copeton Dam Road.
Dates are Thursday and Friday, October 30 and 31 and Thursday through Saturday, November 6-8.
Tickets are $15 and a concession is available on October 30 on and is $10. Supper is a gold coin donation.
