His involvement in the Thoroughbred racing industry spanned more than six decades and included 17 years as Inverell Jockey Club president.
Bede was the president during 1986-93 and again from 1996-2009. For many years Bede was also on the committee of the Hunter and North West Racing Association, but at various times at the Inverell track he was course curator, groundsman, a vice president, life member and patron.
Bede was also an administrator or fundraising supporter of many other groups.
He was president of Inverell Cricket Association 1970-75 and played first grade for many years. Bede joined Inverell Sports Council 1973. He led the fundraising and facilities sub-committees of the sports council and was made a life member.
Bede was 88-years-old when he passed away in February this year.
