The Deputy Leader of The Nationals and Minister for Agriculture has planned to meet with family day care staff to learn more about the threats they face as a result of the Federal Government’s changes to the Community Support Programme (CSP) eligibility criteria.
Despite the new criteria being targeted towards regional and remotely located services including Inverell and District FDC, the day care centre said the service fails to meet the additional requirement of being the sole provider in its area.
Service manager Lisa Szumowski said as a result, the quality, home-based education and care of more than 375 children was now in jeopardy and hundreds of local families could face huge fee increases.
The service will present Mr Joyce with hundreds of campaign postcards signed by concerned parents as part of Family Day Care Australia’s national 'Families Need Family Day Care' campaign.
The national peak body launched the awareness campaign in collaboration with family day care state and territory associations and sector representatives back in May following the Budget announcement. It aims to highlight how far-reaching the consequences of the funding cuts will be.
