THEY say you can see Las Vegas from space, but perhaps this year, the Miles Street weekend Christmas decorations will rival that celebrated city. The Inverell street will once again light up the night on December 20 and 21 with displays and lights from about 7.30pm.

Children can expect lolly bags both nights, and on Sunday, the anticipated visit from Santa will have little ones totting up their lists of toys and games.
Coral Whitbread is a Miles Street resident and said the Christmas icon is eager to visit the children.
“He’s been doing it for years. He loves it!” Coral laughed.
Once again, the residents are collecting for two local charities. On Saturday, those who wish to donate as they visit to view the lights can give to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
On Sunday, the funds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia unit within McLean Care.
McLean chief executive officer, Sue Thomson said McLean’s residential care manager Sarah Wade and registered nurse, Jacqui Dowe will visit Mile Street on Sunday night.
Coral explained both her parents had been affected by dementia, and Sue acknowledged there is an inclusive connection between McLean residents and local area.
“I guess it reinforces our importance to the community and the strength of relationship that McLean shares with not only our residents, but the residents of the community,” Sue said
‘We’re part of the community, and the community is part of us.”
In 2013, the street’s residents decided invite their visitors to contribute to local charities while viewing the decorations, and it was a success.
“Last year, it was the first year, and it was huge. There was over $2000 raised over the three nights. We’re only doing two this year,” Coral said.
