MAYBE it was holiday cheer or it could have been the perfect late spring weather, but the Venetian Carnival was a hit on Saturday night.

The event of fun, food, music, carols, as well as a visit from Santa was organised by the Inverell Apex Club as its benchmark annual event.
Last year the numbers were dampened, but Saturday’s crowds in Campbell Park put any concerns to rest.
Apex member, Alex Eddy, was pleased with the results of the effort.
“It was quite a successful event from our point of view,” Alex said.
There was a little diary-shifting around this year, giving Apex their second choice weekend, but in the end it proved a success.
“As it turns out, being that it’s a Christmas-themed event, I think having it that week later probably isn’t a particularly bad recipe,” Alex said.
Money raised through the Venetian Carnival is funnelled back into the community and Alex said regardless of the amount raised, it was worthwhile to provide the night of fun.
“We probably are more interested as a service club in providing an event for the community that’s free or cheap; something that’s affordable for families, and I think even if we were to run at a loss … that it’s still a success from our point of view,” he said.
