Fire and Rescue deputy captain Wayne Summers said initial reports indicated that the pole was on fire after being struck by lightning, however when fire crews arrived there was no sign of a blaze.
“It was the sort of job we like,” Deputy Captain Summers said. “No-one hurt and nothing destroyed.”
Fire and Rescue was at the scene for about 15 minutes.
Although there has been lively thunderstorm activity around Inverell this week, heavy rainfall has been thin on the ground and very patchy.
At 3.13pm Thursday Bureau Of Meteorology (BOM) recorded falls of about 8.5 mm at Inverell for Wednesday and Thursday, while Elsmore recorded 4.5 mm, Delungra 8.6 mm, and Warialda 11.8 mm.
If you were at Bundarra then BOM reported that you only received .5 mm, while Tingha recorded 4.4 mm and Nullamanna managed 3 mm. While the lightning can start something deputy captain Summers does not like, he did say he hoped there was more rain on the way.
“By the look of the radar there is more building up out in the west,” he said.
