White plays as an inner while Stafford takes to the fields as a midfielder, and along with students from throughout the region, they will attend specialised coaching sessions that could eventually open the door to state representation.
Stafford is a keen player and said he is very pleased with his selection.
“I’ve been playing since I was about five or six. It runs in the family, mum and dad played,” he said.
“This selection might help me in the future to play for Australia. Hopefully the Kookaburras are coming up.”
Stafford has just finished year 10 with year 11 next year.
“I’d probably like to be a builder,” Stafford said.
White is a year 10 student and was also pleased he had been selected.
“I’m really excited. It should be good to gain better skills and development,” White said.
“We will attend seven academy training sessions, I think, and then the Academy Games.
White plays with his local team called Nutcrackers and thinks his experience with NIAS should improve his performances in the local competition. He said he has not made a decision about what he would like to do when he leaves school, but said he would be going through to year 12.
