“Join us for a meal and drinks, with the auction featuring a ‘lot pictorial’ commencing at 7:45pm sharp,” Davidson said.
“Inverell Highlanders’ second annual twilight 7s will kick off at 5pm on the same evening, this year incorporating a schools competition, with the seniors again generating much interest from ‘across the codes’ throughout the region."
Davidson said the club had made good progress last year, with the senior grades remaining competitive throughout the two tiered competition and the colts notched up good wins, including the first of only two defeats handed out to the Moree Bulls in that grade.
“The club is very proud and grateful for the efforts and achievements of its players and coaches and consequently is very pleased to announce the senior coaching staff will remain in place for 2015,” Davidson said.
“Luke Lawler will take on the U18s role with the assistance of Adrian Sunderland, and the Highlanders are close to naming their U16s coach who has a talented group to work with in an expanded competition.
“Junior rugby last year included representative honours and an U14s premiership, and Rowan O’Brien will continue at the helm in 2015.
Along with committed coaches and parents Inverell’s ‘Walla’ continues to attract new families, now arguably boasting the best carnival attendance in the zone.”
Davidson said the Highlanders were fortunate this year to largely retain the members of the 2014 committee, in addition to some new faces with valuable areas of interest. “This will allow the club to build on 2014 and, importantly, remain focussed on longer term goals,” Davidson said.
Off the field, Davidson said the committee saw a successful grant application, and that, coupled with the efforts of many volunteers, enabled the club to continue to improve its facilities.
“Special thanks must go to Colin Moore and his staff for their generous support. Stage one is almost complete and was able to be utilised during the recent successful 4x4 Expo,” Davidson said.
“We again thank the Old Boys Group for its assistance. This group takes care of much in the way of player welfare and continues to support travel and representative commitments for colts players.”
The Inverell Rugby Club acknowledged the assistance of many in the community, the support of the many businesses and help from individuals.
“Everyone who has helped us to operate and grow over the years, we invite everyone to join us on February 13 to kick off our next campaign,” Davidson said.
