Lisa Frost came third in the female 45-49 years and said all other members had great races also.
“Junior events kicked off on Saturday, and although they raced in atrocious conditions due to effects from cyclone Marcia. Full credit should go to Inverell’s four competitors, Dayne and Heidi Borthwick and Jasper and Maggie Newton for competing in very miserable conditions,” Frost said.
“All the youngsters performed extremely well, and the best result went to Maggie Newton who took out first place in the seven years girls’ event.”
Frost said the adults had only slightly better conditions to deal with on Sunday morning.
“A quick downpour just before the start, and also during the race, left the roads slippery,” she said.
“Callum Dolby showed his class with a second place in male 15-19 years and he came fourth overall in a strong men’s field. Congratulations to Peter Reimers for completing his first race away from home soil. Corey Borthwick showed he is in good form leading up to Ironman Australia in May.
“Michael Jorgensen was just outside top 10 finish in his age group, while his wife, Cate, did extremely well to finish, after having knee surgery not so long ago.”
Frost reminded club members that there would be regular fortnightly racing for the club this Saturday, with sign-on at 6-15am.
“Also keep in mind the club is looking to run duathlons through the winter to keep fit for our annual triathlon set down for November 1,” she said.
“Any members looking to improve their swim, please see Kate Bell or Mick Hoynes at the pool. Kate offers squad sessions for all abilities, and has worked wonders with a lot of members.”
