The 19-year-old TAFE student said sacrificing her hair is weighing on her mind. She admitted it would be a drastic haircut and felt a little apprehensive about how she will feel afterwards. As for her reason, she is unbudgeable.
“It is something I thought a lot about, and I definitely want to do it. I wouldn’t change my mind,” she said.
Her motivation has come from her partner, who recently lost his grandmother to cancer, and tracing her family history with her mother and grandmother.
“My mum’s grandmother, grandfather and great-grandmother all passed away of cancer. So it’s hereditary in my family,” she said.
Jess hopes to raise $560 because that amount will support accommodation for a family travelling with a loved one who needs treatment.
“I’ve kind of made it a thing that every year that I do something good to give back, and this year it’s the World’s Greatest Shave,” she said.
Last year, Jess joined in the sleep out for the homeless, and the year before, went for a short cut and colour with her friend Katie Wood to raise $700 for Logan Rollinson.
This Friday, Jess will be surrounded by her friends cheering her on. If you would like to support Jess’s cause, you can make a donation at Fusion at 22 Otho Street or stop in on the day.
