Recent arrival Thomas Jordan hopes to establish a class that offers new users the basics in creating storylines and animations from the ground up. Programs explored will be Anime Studio for 2-d design, Poser Pro for 3-D animation and Vue Studio, which does 3-D animation with characters and backgrounds.
Thomas taught animation and design in the Western Sydney IT cluster, and has deep roots in the modern computer age.
“I started in 1979 in the days when you had to tell each pixel on the screen what colour it had to be before you could create an image,” he said.
Richard was working with the Department of Defence at the time, and they wanted people who could work in information technology. Thomas said he saw the potential of computers to pursue his own creative pursuits.
“I’d been an artist and a writer since I was 12-years-old. I’ve always had a passion for it. Then electronics came along, and I found instead of using a pen and paper, I could do it all on computer.”
Thomas has been a web designer and has experience in the many platforms and software used in the animation industry. He has also worked as a digital book illustrator.
That know-how lends itself to the program he hopes to offer young and adult students who want to use the digital palette to create their own visions.
Itty Bitty Gallery owner Andrew Horwood invited those interested to attend the demonstration from 4-6pm where Thomas will take visitors though the programs and show them the work he has created.
Andrea said she hopes experience with this experienced animator will culminate into an animated film festival of student work at the gallery.
The Itty Bitty Gallery, 44 Byron Street is located in the car park behind Out The Back Café. For more information, phone Andrea on 0428 458 406.
