The District 9650 Rotary Conference held in Inverell from Friday to Sunday last weekend was a resounding success. Four hundred delegates from around the District (which extends west to Lightning Ridge and south to Foster) converged on Inverell and by all accounts had a terrific time. Many people were in Inverell for the first time and commented on how lovely Inverell was and what a great CBD we have.

The refurbished town hall was a fantastic venue, the acoustics and audio-visual worked really well and people were amazed at the changes since our last conference here in 2012.
The dinners on Friday and Saturday nights at the RSM were superb – the meals were of a high quality and delivery was quick and efficient.
The RSM also provided smorgasboard lunches at the town hall and everyone enjoyed these. The RSM Auxilary provided delicious morning teas and these were greatly appreciated as well. We had Sunday breakfast at the Art Gallery catered for by the Art Gallery committee after a walk from Lake Inverell and again, this was of a very high standard.
A number of speakers from Inverell and far flung places such as Melbourne and Sydney kept people entertained and informed about various projects. Max Walker as MC and keynote speaker kept everyone laughing as he recounted his cricketing days and Mike McQueen’s speech on “Keeping you Organisation Relevant” was truly inspirational.
Many people contributed to the resounding success of this event and deserve heartfelt thanks. These included the very hard-working conference committee under the chairmanship of Phil Goddard, all the voluntary helpers over the weekend from Warialda, Barraba, Inverell and Inverell East Rotary Clubs and also to Inverell Bus Services for their help in transporting people to the various events. Inverell Shire Council also assisted by putting up the banners and flags.
Thank you Inverell for your friendliness and hospitality to all our visitors as it was greatly appreciated by everyone.
