A large crowd arrived for a barbecue outside and local Geoffery Hume was busy selling purple merchandise to benefit the Epilepsy Action Australia.
Geoffery had also crafted some coloured woven bracelets for 50 cents each to add to the cause.
“I made some looms for the donation to the people,” he said.
Kirinari accommodation manager Peter Collins said the idea for the Purple Day originated with their clients.
“It was one of clients that actually brought up that today was on, and wanted us to be involved,” he said.
“It’s about raising awareness within the community about people with epilepsy, but we’re also raising money to help support cures or preventions or help with the research.”
Peter said the service was transforming to reflect more of the needs of the people they serve
“We’re trying to revamp our business in a sense. The vision for Kirinari is to provide the disability services for the community, but tying in with what the people with the people with disability want,” he explained.
“Whether it’s with ourselves, or partnering with other organisations. It’s not about what we can offer, it’s about what people need, and then us tailoring our services to meet those needs.”
