The weekly session run by early childhood educator Heidi Campbell will begin next Monday, April 27, from 9.30am to 11.30am at the IDFS premises, 30-34 Campbell Street. The cost is only $2 per child, and parents or carers are asked to bring morning tea, a drink and hat for their child. No booking required; people can just come along.
Lisa Szumowski is the Family Day Care manager. She said they wanted to do something proactive for local families.
“A lot of people were asking, “Is there anywhere to take their children for playgroup?’ so we just thought of something for the community,” Lisa said.
She felt things have not been easy for both families and early child educators.
“We’re just trying to do a lot of positive things in light of all the dark clouds that are happening over is at the moment,” Lisa said.
The group encourages families, new parents, only children, new residents, parents with an infant and a toddler, and those on the land to come by for two hours of seriously fun socialising in a safe environment. Lisa said there were many assets to a playgroup setting.
“We provide learning experiences, art and craft, painting. Even little things like, eventually for their sharing, to build confidence and self-esteem.”
IDFS is also hosting an open house on Sunday, May 3, which will include a fundraiser for asthma awareness.
