Ten weeks after marrying at their Los Angeles home, speculation about the pair's future was rampant as they had reportedly not been photographed together in about two months.

But the duo were snapped clasping hands and wearing their wedding bands as they disembarked a private jet at Brisbane Airport on Monday. Depp, 51, is returning to Queensland to resume filming the fifth Pirates of the Carribean film, subtitled Dead Men Tell No Tales. The actor injured his hand while on the Gold Coast last month, and flew home to LA for surgery.

"His return depended on his recuperation from surgery and when his physician allowed him to travel. It was entirely dependant on that," said Michael Singer, the film's publicist.

About 200 crew members were temporarily stood down because of the production delays caused by Depp's absence. In the meantime, crew focused on shooting scenes without him. The $250 million production is the largest ever to be filmed in Queensland. Depp's right hand was still bandaged in a cloth when he landed in Brisbane this week.

The movie is being made at the Gold Coast's Village Roadshow studios and a nearby seat at Helensvale. Heard's plans while in Australia may include finishing the thick tome of Christopher Hitchens' essays she was clutching while pictured at Brisbane Airport.

The couple have been dating since 2012 but break-up rumours have swirled since their marriage in February. People magazine reported the pair were leading "separate lives", while the New York Post suggested Heard's friendship with photographer Tillett Wright was "causing problems in her marriage".

But the duo have been busy in the weeks since they tied the knot, with Depp filming Pirates and Heard premiering two films at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York last week.

An "insider" told E! News: "They are very much in love with each other, but because of their strong personalities and opinions, they do argue a lot."

The pair first met while filming The Rum Diary in 2010.
