Club secretary Jon Watts said the main race was the fifth event called the Gallipoli Carnival of Cups, and was won by seven-year-old, Tamworth trained, New Zealand gelding Franco Seville.
“The racing on the day was excellent, there were full fields in all of the races,” Watts said.
“Interestingly, in the last race there were eight runners, and between then they had won 118 races. I though that wasn’t a bad effort.”
Watts said the crowd was down on Sunday, which did not see much of Saturday’s sunshine at all.
“It was very cold and overcast, but I think anyone who turned up at the showground enjoyed themselves, and the club was very happy with the meeting given the conditions,” Watts said.
“We had trainers from all over, including one who came up from near Sydney. The prize money attracted them and it’s good racing.”
Watts said Toowoomba trainers Lola and Judy Weidemann brought 14 horses to the cup in two trucks.
“Their niece Stacy had her second race win,” he said.
“They’re great, they have always been great supporters of Inverell.”
