Fifteen young women were presented to Bishop Michael Kennedy of Armidale.
The Chairman and Matron of the Ball were Dudley and Carol McLennon. The Mistress of Ceremonies was Darlene Motum.
Inverell mayor Paul Harmon, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall and Senator John Williams were also in attendance.
Organiser Anthony Michael said the girls and their escorts learned the formal dances for the night with Marcia Summers. The couples had been practicing for the past nine weeks.
Senator Williams said it was a great night.
“Wonderful debs and partners, and very impressive dancing. The venue was decorated in a brilliant form,” he said.
Mr Michael said the interest in the ball was growing each year, and the committee has had to limit numbers. Each deb brings family and friends with her, making every seat valuable.
“We had to turn five debs away this year, and we had to turn some away last year as well,” Mr Michael said.
“It’s a coming out. The old school, where we’re trying to bring a bit more tradition back.”
Though the event has a Catholic connection, Mr Michael said the event is non-denominational, and any year 11 or 12 girl is welcome to attend.
Mr Marshall recognised the event in NSW Parliament on May 14 when he congratulated all who participated and organised the event.
