Inverell High School sports co-ordinator Denise Bryant said the school was very strong in touch.
“The girls have just won their regional knockout matches, so they’re now into the final 20 state-wide of that competition,” Bryant said.
Watkins said she is looking forward to the matches on her home ground, even though a round at a beach venue would have been good.
“But it’s good that it’s here and we don’t have to travel again and hopefully it will give us a bit more of an advantage with training,” Watkins said.
“Most of the girls live in Inverell or pretty close, so we’re training every Wednesday afternoon, whereas in other years we haven’t really trained that much.”
She said in previous years distance kept families from attending the matches, so it would be good to have home team supporters at the game as well.
Kate Lennon said she expected the standard of the matches to be high.
“Being CHS you get all the Sydney teams and everyone else,” Kate Lennon said.
“We have people who play in the Australian team playing in the carnival, so it will be good competition.
“I think we have a good, solid team all round and hopefully that will work in our favour. We’ll give it a good go, and hopefully it will be enough.”
