“We’ve been extremely busy with people enrolling for full qualification training to take up local jobs or to get statements for compliance training such as WHS, First Aid, Working safely at heights and traffic control,” Inverell program co-ordinator Tania Archer said. “It’s great to have so many people walk into the college enquiring about the training we can offer.”
Tania said Community Colleges in this region have been very busy with the uptake of subsidised training for people looking to enter or re-enter the workforce since the January introduction of the NSW government Smart and Skilled reforms.
She said jobs are available in Inverell, particularly in the aged and disability sector.
“At the Community College, we have some aged care students employed before they complete their training,” she said.
Tania felt the level playing field for pricing of courses under reforms ensured students could make decisions on quality of the training, not price, which has meant at the Community College there have been very full classes.
“The college has been provided with additional Smart and Skilled funding which has allowed us to schedule another Certificate III in Aged Care to commence in Inverell immediately after the school break,” she said.
“At the college, we ensure a qualified and industry experienced trainer is with the class in the College and during their work experience so students receive excellent support throughout.”
Tania stressed student well-being, the quality of the educational experience and the provision of up-to-date industry relevant training was a priority.
She also felt the Community College was proud of and acknowledged the professionalism of their trainers.
“Nothing is more exciting than learning from someone who shares the same passions as you,” Tania said. “Our trainers go beyond what we ask of them and are committed to ensuring Comm-unity College students achieving their goals and qualifications so they are fully prepared for employment in their chosen industry.”
