A host of local youth will take the Inverell Town Hall stage today through Thursday for the Inverell Music, Speech and Drama Eisteddfod.
Committee member Barbara Wigg encouraged the public to come along to support the next generation of performers. She said a lot of people have launched their careers with Eisteddfods, such as local Elizabeth Campbell, now enjoying a successful career as a mezzo soprano operatic singer.
“We’d love the public to come,” Barbara said.
“And it’s very cheap to come and hear good performances at $5.”
The three days include instrumental performance from pianists, guitarists, woodwind and brass instrumentalists, vocalists and choirs.
Accomplished pianist and music educator, AMEB examiner and Eisteddfod adjudicator Richard Morphew will judge this year’s offerings.
The music championships are scheduled for Wednesday’s evening session, and Barbara said is good chance to see some of the area’s best talent for a very small fee.
Sapphire City Band and a choir will perform during the Wednesday night session.
Local Don Learmonth will take the judge’s chair for Thursday’s dramatic performances, featuring poetry and verse recitation, improvisation, mime and one-act plays.
Daily sessions run from 9am, 1pm and 7pm today, tomorrow and Thursday. Entry for each session is $5 per person.
The best and brightest chosen by adjudicators will appear on the Town Hall stage on Wednesday, September 2 for the Eisteddfod Concert. Concert tickets are $10 per adult and $5 for non-participating children, available at the door.
