The number of shooters increased this year to 186, and on Friday, the 50 target Side x Side Championship was held in ideal conditions. Visiting shooters took out all the major prizes with Matt Duncan shooting an impressive 50/61 to take first place.
Club secretary Sue Turner said Saturday dawned bright and clear as shooters got ready for an early start to their first 100 target event.
“With targets like the ‘drop bear’, ‘sewer rat’ and, of course, the dreaded ‘rabbit’, shooters definitely had to have their wits about them,” Turner said.
Again it was the visiting shooters who took out all the main events.
“Aaron Knowles finished as overall champion on the day with an amazing score of 97/100,” Turner said.
Other results were: 1st AA grade Jason Soloman 95/100, 1st A grade Rob Drew 85/100, 1st B grade Alex Martin 79/100 and 1st C grade was Stan Kurkiewics 71/100.
Several lady shooters acquitted themselves well. Jo Cameron came in 2nd in B grade with a 77/100 and Samantha Richards gained 2nd in C grade with 67/100.
“Sunday proved a little more of a challenge with a change in conditions,” Turner said.
Cloud moved in and visibility was difficult at times.
After another 100 target round Aaron Knowles again was the overall winner with a 96/100. Justin Barton was very close to win AA grade with a 95/100. A grade was taken out by Tony Love with a score of 86/100, B grade was won by Scott Kelly 76/100 and C grade winner was Jason Parkes with a score of 69/100.
High Guns for the weekend were: Overall High Gun was Aaron Knowles with 193/200, AA Grade Keith Cameron 187/200, A Grade Rob Drews 170/200, B grade Alex Martin 164/200 and C Grade Stan Kurkiewics 153/200. Veterans Ian Clisdell with 167/200, Super Veterans John Benham 161/200, Ladies Toni Campbell 155/200 and Junior Lachlan Punchard 163/200.
“Inverell Clay Target Club would like to thank Mick and Alethea Grills and Glen Anderson for all the hard work they put into this event,” Turner said.
