This year’s queen entrants are Mikaela Hills, Madeline Smith, Kristin Thomas and Jodie Holder. The reigning queen is Megan Debreceny. Potential princesses are Mackenzie Emerson, Mya Foster-Sesuru, Olivia Trevithick, Maria Yzabella Bates, Prue Ticehurst and Jordana-Rose Colley-Ryan.
They will be vying for the princess and junior princess titles currently held by Jemima McLachlan and Isabella Pactwa. The festival will run from October 16 to November 1, although there will be a number of pre-festival events, starting with an art competition and exhibition at the Inverell Art Gallery on Saturday, September 12.
The Queens and Princesses will be required to attend a number of festival functions, where they will be judged on how well they interact with the community.
“It gives them the opportunity to be out and about and to be part of the festival action,” said festival president Paul Harmon.
The young women will also be judged on how they present themselves and their general knowledge of the Inverell shire and community.
This year a number of community events will be hosted by various local organisations, including market days, a fun run, floral art displays and an ‘Inverell’s got Talent’ competition.
“There’s lots of activities in the program and of course they’re all a highlight,” said Paul.
“It’s jam-packed with activity.”
The celebrations will conclude with the Street Parade and the finale at Campbell Park on October 31.
The Festival Queens and Princesses will be crowned at the finale which will also include the annual rubber duck race and a fireworks display.
