PIONEER Village was filled with vintage tractors, cars and steam engines last weekend for the annual machinery rally. It was a celebration of human ingenuity, machinery and life on the land.

“Everybody was having a wonderful time,” organiser Brian Ellis said.
He added people must have really enjoyed themselves, because some are already booked in for next year.
Brian said that although numbers were down a little this year, this was due to the large number of competing events on the weekend.
“It was still a good turnout,” he said.
The tractor pull was a very popular event, with 18 tractors signed up to display their strength by towing enormous concrete blocks along a sled.
Brian said he thought people enjoyed seeing how each tractor performed.
“It’s amazing how much difference a tractor of one horsepower can pull,” he said. Machine-lovers could also enjoy a stationary engine display and a steam display. A Robey steam engine roamed around the village over the weekend.
There was a hay baling demonstration by a 1930s Magpie hay baler, also known as a ‘bird’s beak’ baler.
Pioneer Village was a fitting location as rally-goers were taken back in time to see how farmers used to cut, flatten and tie wire around hay to make bales.
“It was quite interesting to see how it was done,” Brian said.
The rally will be back again next year for anyone keen for a little more time travelling.
