Inverell Shire in conjunction with the muscles of Macintyre Lions Club is holding the annual white goods and e-waste collection day this Saturday.
Residents must phone council to register their goods to collect by 4.30pm tomorrow on 6728 8200.
Though the work is strenuous, Macintyre Lions’ member Laurie Bullock said each collection day was memorable.
“It’s actually a pretty fun job,” he said.
He said past episodes like attending the wrong address, picking up items and having to return them were well-established in club annals.
He said one year, a neighbour watched as the Lions removed an item from a backyard.
“They had the right number but the wrong street and they got around the back, and I think it was the freezer,” Laurie said.
“Fortunately, they got it back before the police were called.”
The tiring morning ends with a lunch and tales to tell.
“We have lunch at the Aussie after it and everyone’s just full of stories about what happened at the end of day,” Laurie said.
