Studio principal Laura King said the process was a big memory trip, getting out old routines, costumes and recalling past productions.
“Last Friday we had the full cast here, so you’ve got ten years of Mary Poppins, Tinkerbell, all these, right back - our first one was Beauty and the Beast,” she said with a reflective smile.
The old costumes sparked thoughts of where the dancers who once wore them, are today.
“You think, ‘Oh my god, she’s with the Western Australia Ballet, the girl who wore that’,” Laura said.
“And Ricki Mason was Burt, and Dustin (Cooper) will be Burt this time.” She said the decade had been emotional and busy, and she felt she had grown as a teacher.
“I’ve probably chilled out from what I first was,” she mused.
“Confidence, but also I came from the city, so all those big studios I had to teach in in the city are kids that will dance and must dance and have the money to dance, so I came from that to a little country town.”
She said it was an education to learn kids came to dance for the fun of it in the country, and the change softened her.
“That was one of the things I loved, that I could step down a notch,” she said. “I want them to love it, but I want them to be good and have that high standard, but I guess it’s more about the passion.”
The performances for Ten Years and Going Strong are at the Inverell Town Hall on December 4 at 6.30pm and December 5 at 1pm. Adult entry is $15, and children and concessions are $10. Tickets are available at Craze Dance or at the door, and Laura said they are going fast.
