Organisation of the annual charity run on December 12 has been transferred to the keen group from the Inverell Motorcycle Restorer’s Club.
“Last time in the actual Toy Run down the street, there was something like 200 bikes, so I think this year we’re trying to get more than that,” club president Peter Bates said.
“We’re having a poker run after it, again, to raise money for Salvos.”
He said all the toys and funds stay local, and regional motorcyclists were very supportive of the event.
Inverell Salvation Army Captain Robert Mills said people can donate unwrapped new toys, money or gift cards to Inverell Motorcycles or the Salvos’ Family Store in Otho Street.
Donations prior to December 21 are appreciated.
He said gift cards were an excellent choice for teenagers who are often overlooked in Toy Runs that seem to cater to younger children.
“The people in need aren’t all just children; there’s actually teenaged kids, and even mums and dads,” he said.
“So if someone wants to give maybe a pamper pack for those age groups would be really appreciated.”
Past events have been successful and Captain Mills said they have had enough for Inverell and even reached out to Bingara with toys for families in need.
Toy distribution will take place at the Family Store in Otho Street on December 7, 11, 14, 18 and 21 from 9am-12pm.
The Toy Run motorcyclists will assemble for the Poker Run at Lake Inverell at 9.30am on Saturday, December 12.
The riders will stop by Inverell Motorcycles at 10, then leave for stops at Bundarra and Uralla where the riders will have lunch at the Top Pub.
The return route is via Guyra and the cost is $20 with the last card drawn at Inverell’s Oxford Hotel.
