He said the shed would purchase cordless drills, batteries, clamps, a dado blade, a 35 centimetre bandsaw and cover the cost of freight.
Vic said some of the activities of the shed included the repair and restoration of furniture and the manufacture of cat and Indian Myna bird traps.
“Those men who use the shed have an amazing amount of skills and they enjoy each other’s company, which helps keep them happy,” Vic said.
He said the Inverell Men’s Shed had been running for about nine years and was one of the earliest sheds to be established in the region.
Shed secretary Daryl Culhane said it would not be the last grant they would apply for.
“As far as equipment is concerned there is always an update, and always something that can be purchased that makes the life and the job easier for the guys who are doing all the work there,” Daryl said.
He said the men’s shed has about 30 members and on any given day between 12 and 20 people turn up.
“But remember, the men’s shed is not all about work, it’s about men’s health. And even if people don’t think they can do something, come down and talk to us. Have a chat and have a coffee,” Daryl said.
The men’s shed was congratulated on receiving the funding by the Member of New England Barnaby Joyce. Daryl said his office was instrumental in getting the funding.
