Teulczyn said the whole process started when he noticed how many kids from Ashford were playing with Inverell Minor League, including his two sons, and he thought there seemed to be a lot of interest there.
“We started the process to set it all up around about mid-2015,” Teulczyn said.
“We started getting a fair bit of interest from around the Ashford area so we looked into it further. In November we submitted a proposal to Group 19 Junior Rugby League and they accepted that.”
Teulczyn said the club had enough to field six teams out of a possible seven.
“We’ve got kids from Ashford and the surrounding areas, and we’ll field under 8s, under 10s, under 12s, junior Girl’s League Tag, senior Girl’s League Tag and under 16’s,” Teulczyn said.
He said the Ashford juniors would get the chance to play against all the local teams.
“It goes right out to Moree and Armidale. I reckon we’ll go all right, we mightn’t get any teams in semi-finals in our first year, but I reckon we’ll have a good go at it,” Teulczyn said.
A registration day for the Ashford juniors will be held from 4pm-6pm tomorrow, February 3 at Ashford Town Oval.
“Another one will be held on Sunday, February 7. We’d like to see as many players registered as soon as possible,” Teulczyn said.
