Club president Peter Black said his members were able to successfully disperse 4500 Murray cod fingerlings in the river between Brodies Plains to the Red Rock area down stream of the Inverell Cemetery.
“It is important for our club to make a contribution to the future sustainability of the sport in the region,” Black said.
“Fishing is also an important tourism component for our shire and there are obviously broader economic positives that stem from that.”
The club also plans a second stage release of 20,000 golden perch fingerlings over the same area in early April of this year.”
Black said the local support and events made the restocking viable for the club.
“Our releases would not be possible without the funding we generate from the fishing invitational we conduct in conjunction with Mike and Wendy Shelton from Inverell Fishing and Hunting each year,” Black said.
“The invitational fishing competition will be on at Copeton Dam on February 27-28, and the way it is shaping up it will be our biggest yet, which augers well for future restocking events.”
