TAFE New England has welcomed the Minister for Skills, John Barilaro’s announcement that students will have access to $25 million worth of scholarships for those undertaking vocational training in technology-based growth industries.

The initiative will offer 25,000 scholarships around NSW, including the New England and North West region such as those participating in training at the Inverell campus.
“This is an exciting announcement that will ensure that vocational education and training is accessible, and affordable, for students in 2016,” TAFE New England Institute director Peter Heilbuth said.
“Our staff are on hand to answer questions about technology-based courses available at TAFE New England and there’s no better time to enrol than at the beginning of semester one,” Mr Heilbuth said.
The scholarships are part of the Jobs for Tomorrow program that encourages more vocational education and training (VET) students to enrol in and complete courses in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Students training in science, technology, engineering or maths-related courses through Smart and Skilled are eligible for a $1000 Jobs of Tomorrow scholarship.
The program will help connect STEM students to relevant work and networking opportunities during their training, while helping people already working in these fields enrol for additional STEM studies.
