Entries close this Sunday April 24, and with numbers well up on last year, organising committeeman Peter Sunderland said he is expecting more. More than 100 riders will line up in the A grade field, which is the first round of the National Road Series (NRS) for 2016. Twelve teams have entered, with several more lodging their intention to be on the start line.
“This is one of the strongest NRS fields we have had in recent years,” Sunderland said.
“The winner of the last two editions of the 228km Classic, Sean Lake will wear the number 1 this year.
“Lake is the first rider to win back to back titles here and will have the full support of his Avanti IsoWhey Sports team, when he attempts to make it a hat trick on May 7.”
Lake will be well marked by the likes of the State of Matter MAAP, Mobius Future Racing and Subaru NSWIS teams, which will be out to put in a strong start to the 2016 NRS.
More than 130 riders will line up in the B grade, and the C Grade. With local clubs, Inverell and Grafton will be well represented in both grades. The race starts at Grafton at 7:30am on Saturday May 7 and the first riders are expected to finish at Inverell around 1:30pm.
