He said while he had about 300 people attend the meeting at Armidale, he was not expecting that number in each town (although that would be good).
“We’re going to hold about 20 of these meetings right across the electorate. We’ve got nine out there at the moment, and then there’ll be more on top of that,” he said.
“The purpose of these meetings is for me to be able to explain why I am running again. A lot of people have asked me that and it’s a fair enough question, and it’s to allow the audience to ask questions.”
Mr Windsor said he did not view Inverell as being a National Party heartland.
“I don’t think any area is owned by anybody anymore. I think there has been a history of independence in this area, both at a state and federal level.
“I think people tend to vote more for the candidate than the brand these days.” Mr Windsor said, most importantly, his meetings would also provide him with some feedback on the needs of the communities he spoke to.
The meeting will be held on budget night, which will be announced at about the same time.
“I hope there will be some good things in there for New England. I think we’ve seen feverish activity of attention paying in the last month, so maybe that will get reflected in the budget as well,” Mr Windsor said.
“But that’s a good thing. One of the things I’ve always said is that political competition drives the process.”
One of the other things Mr Windsor has always said is that the world is run by those who turn up, and he hoped Inverell would do just that.
