Ashford Central School has an enrolment of about 180 students, from kindergarten to year 12, and the last time one of school’s students qualified to compete at the state carnival was in 2008.
Lavender made it into the North-West team that competed in Sydney, where she swam third in the 50 metres backstroke with a time of 50.46.
“She also showed her talents in the 10-years 50 metre freestyle to come fourth,” said school spokeswoman Katrina Morris.
“At the state carnival Storm came second in her junior backstroke heat with a personal best time of 48.63 seconds, smashing her previous personal best time by two seconds.
“Storm’s achievements are incredible feats for a young girl who has no personal trainer and trains in the 25 metre pool in Ashford.”
Morris said Lavender had achieved the results due to her natural talent, individual commitment to training and tremendous support from her teachers, carers, fellow students and the close knit community of Ashford.
