Five-year-old bay gelding Fours enuf tas, trained by Julie Weidemann at Toowoomba and driven by Stacey Weidemann, won the feature race. The prize was presented by Brian Baldwin in front of what Watts estimated to be about a 400 strong crowd.
“It was the best crowd we’ve had for a long time,” he said.
Race three was originally run in the rain, but it didn’t seem to affect the crowd, and the new track handled the wet superbly.
Watts said all of the drivers and owners complimented the club on its track improvements.
“The chief executive officer of Harness Racing NSW came up to the meeting, had a look at it and was most impressed,” he said.
“He had a long conversation with Kevin Pay about the surface.”
Watts said 72 horses raced on the day in eight races, with nine starters in each race. There were also three mini-trotting races held on the day.
“Seven kids came and they had three races,” he said.
“They were all lined up on the track afterwards and they each got a prize.”
Southern Queensland’s premier race-caller Anthony Collins came down to cover the meeting.
“You have to be a Sky Channel approved announcer,” Watts explained. “Anthony was a terrific announcer.”
Watts said the club did very well out of this year’s event.
