The $5000 grant will purchase removable barrier fencing and hi-vis safety vests for its volunteers.
“The event isn’t possible without volunteers,” Pathfinders support worker and Toughen Up volunteer Lynn Lennon said.
“Ensuring their safety and the participant’s safety is paramount to a successful event.”
The Toughen Up Challenge is four years old and relies on 70 volunteers to run the event. Volunteers are responsible for planning of the event, set up of the obstacle course, safe road
crossing, manning individual obstacle stations, keeping spectators outside the course, ensuring
welfare of participants, undertaking sign-on at registration, emcee-ing on the day, providing water for participants, issuing of directions and a million small details on the day.
“We are only able to retain and expand our volunteer workforce if we can provide them with equipment and tools that will minimise their, and the participant’s, risk of harm,” said Lynn.
The Toughen Up Challenge aim is to raise funds for equipment, improve infrastructure of existing amenities, orfor the building of new infrastructure within Inverell.
This funding is available to non-profit organisations located in Inverell.
Expressions of Interest will be sent out to interested parties in June this year.
