“We didn’t have the reserves on the bench that we needed in the game at the end,” he said.
“To be competitive, I believe you need 17 players each weekend and we just haven’t been able to do that for a few weekends because of injuries to a few key players. Lack of depth is probably the issue.”
He jokingly described the Roosters as the Penrith of Group 19.
“I think Penrith are in the same position, they’ve lost a heap of games by two and three points, we’re the same,” he said.
“We’ve lost three games for the year for a total of eight points. We’ve just got to turn those arm wrestles into games that are going our way.”
But I’ve seen enough from our team this year to think that we’re a genuine chance, even though we’re fourth at the moment.

Lewis thought it was still a very even competition with at least six sides that could win it.
He agreed a bye this weekend would be a chance to for injured players to get back on the field.
“The weekend after will be a lot better, we’re at home and that helps. We should be a bit stronger for the next few weeks,” Lewis said.
“I think it is always easier to get players for home games than it is for away games.
“But I’ve seen enough from our team this year to think that we’re a genuine chance, even though we’re fourth at the moment. It’s all very close.”
Lewis remains positive about the Roosters’ chances.
