A draft Biodiversity Conservation Bill and Local Land Services Bill have been released for comment until June 28.
This legislation, supporting materials and more information can be viewed at www.landmanagement.nsw.gov.au.
The 2014 Review of Biodiversity Legislation in NSW made 43 recommendations on how to minimise future biodiversity losses and transform native vegetation management.
The Biodiversity Reforms give effect to those recommendations.
The NSW government worked closely with landholders and other stakeholders to develop an evidence-based environmental management system – the new NSW Biodiversity Conservation legislative framework.
The new framework gives land managers the tools and flexibility to manage and protect their land.
Key elements of the reforms include: investing in conservation on private land, simpler regulations that give responsibility to land managers and reward sustainable land management, focusing on conserving biodiversity at a bioregional and state level - rather than at the site-by-site level, and ensuring any land clearing is assessed under one set of consistent rules.
The NSW government will also invest $100 million in the Saving our Species program and $240 million in a private land conservation program.
There will also be a Biodiversity Reform Public Information Session at the Tamworth Community Centre (Heritage Room), 3A Darling St, next Tuesday, May 31 from 5-7.30pm for those who are able to attend.
