McInerney will be accompanied to Japan by Nick King who said an advance seminar would be held and competitors would participate in both Kata and Kimite.
“It’s also a cultural event that will encourage all the young champions from all around the world in the junior to get together to meet and greet and compete together,” King said.
“This is the first one of its kind from the World Koshiki Karatedo Federation. It’s a really big deal, especially since there are only juniors competing.
“We received the invitation for Nick McInerney to compete. If you get invitations to go to these events, you don’t knock them back.”
King said McInerney had travelled to compete in Japan once before, and was an achiever in a lot of the Australian competitions.
“He always gets a first or second, hence he’s got the invitation,” he said. “He’s really keen and he’s really fast.
"He’s got a lot of good speed work. His nickname down his is ‘Sensei Speedy’ because he’s so quick, and his technique and his timing are almost perfect.”
King said McInerney had been training hard for the event, with some good cross training sessions with Chaffey’s Blackbelt Academy in Tamworth.
“They’ve been bringing over some students and some fighters for Nick in his preparation as well,” King said.
“Greg Smith has also been a great help in the coaching side of things as well.”
King said 16-year-old McInerney had received good support from a lot of angles.
“So hopefully we should get a good result,” he said.
King said McInerney was only young, but the only way for him to improve is compete in competition like the grand prix.
“The main thing is he will get to meet and greet other kids from all around the world, exchange numbers and things like that, and in the world of networking it’s very important to be able to do that,” King said
