The $152,300 contribution will be used for a widening project at the Mosquito Creek Rd intersection, helping local agricultural enterprises and a blue metal quarry that services areas out to Walgett with the introduction of AB-triple trucks.
Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said it would vastly improve transport efficiency, the upgrade benefitting 160,000 tonnes of freight connecting to the Gwydir Highway.
He said it was also expected to lead to a 15 percent reduction in heavy vehicle trips.
"This means fewer trucks on the road, less road damage for council to deal with, and more profitable local businesses, “Mr Marshall said.
"Investments in these 'last mile ‘projects deliver benefits ways beyond the country roads that we’re working on.
"The funding is part of $1.27 million announced for Northern Tablelands electorate councils and is part of the Fixing Country Roads program.
Mr Marshall said freight across the region had negotiated a web of minor roads that were often forgotten when it came to funding projects.
"It has always been easy for governments to ignore these byways in favour of high-visibility projects, “he said.
"The Fixing Country Roads program addresses those years of neglect by supporting local councils in their efforts to address important ‘last mile' issues on their local roads.
"Relatively small investments can have big impacts."
