All councillors voted to accept the increase with minimal debate.
Inverell is classified as a rural council, so councillors will now be paid $11,290 per annum for their service to the community, while the mayor will now receive $35,920 for his role.
Council general manager Paul Henry said the increase was budgeted and relatively small when compared to increases to councillors in higher categories than Inverell.
He said there were six classifications above Inverell’s providing councillors with larger annual remunerations between $18,180 to $37,640.
