Falling on hard times after a failed kidney transplant, Tingha Citizens Association Inc raised $5100 for Glen Cross and his family with a Mississippi-themed dinner at the Tingha Sport and Rec Club.
“It's been quite amazing,” chairperson Colleen Graham said.
Volunteers dressed as pirates gave locals extra motivation to donate, brandishing cutlasses as they carried a treasure chest around.
“I think they made pretty well $100 just going around with their cutlasses,” Colleen said.
“If you'd seen them you wouldn't have been scared,” she laughed.

Numerous raffles and games added to the fun and the Tingha RFS pulled together in support of their captain.
The audience was serenaded by ukuleles and laughed at a local impersonator while enjoying homemade food. Emcee Greg Kachel kept the night going.
“It was quite a busy night, we had something happening all the time. People went away quite satisfied,” Colleen said.
Glen was touched by the community’s support, and got into the swing of things, decked out in his own elaborate sheriff costume, which won him the men’s best dressed award.
“He looked fantastic,” Colleen said.
