The regional champions finished 11th in the competition in Newcastle on June 20-22.
“The only people that really knew how to play was Bethany, myself, Chloe and Terri, and the rest were just fill-ins,” Sophie Hayden said.
“They did amazingly well,” added Bethany Zanco-Hinds, who felt they had become a smoother team after rising to the state challenge. As key members of the north west team for the past five years, Hayden and Zanco-Hinds are experienced players. The pair were proud of their teammates for stepping up to the plate.
“It was hard. Because Sydney have a big tournament, like they play three games every Saturday, and we don’t even have a comp here,” Hayden said.
Macintyre became the north west champions after defeating Armidale, Wee Waa and Peel High School. The team went on to lose to Forest Hills High School before beating Hunter Sports High School. While they were taken down by Kootingal, the girls grasped a tight 3-1 win against Orange High School in a nail-biting game.
“I just enjoy meeting new people and having a competition that’s so diverse,” Zanco-Hinds said.
