SECRETARY of the Inverell Hawks, Steven Hamilton, thought the Ladies League Tag jersey raffle that raised $2600 for the Inverell Breast Cancer Group on Ladies Day at Varley Oval on Saturday, June 25, was a great idea by league tagger Michel Watkins.

“Michel decided to have these specially designed jumpers for the day,” Hamilton said.
“It was just a good idea.”
The pink jumpers were raffled after the main game.
Watkins said she just wanted to give back to a special group in town, but had no idea where her idea originated from.
“League tag is very popular and growing very fast in the area,” she said.
She said she enjoyed playing for the Hawks, who are running third on the League Tag ladder. The ladies team will play competition leaders the Ashford Roosters at Ashford this weekend, but was not ready to predict a win for the Inverell side.
“It will be a very close game, I think,” she said.
Michel said league tag was a good sport for fitness and social interactivity.
President of the Inverell Breast Cancer Group, Jan O’Neil, described the auction as unbelievable.
“When we got there we knew the jerseys had a reserve of $50 on each of them,” she said.
“So we just thought, you know, $60 or $70 each, but it just went wild; it was $100, $120 and $150.”
“It was just amazing and we had a great day.”
