Thanks for Windsor support
As reported (Inverell Times, July 22) Tony and Lynn Windsor were back in Inverell thanking supporters. Actually we were thanking each other as genuine grass roots Inverell district people who took the time and energy to ‘stand up’.

I thank each and every one of you and despite our best efforts we didn’t get Tony over the line. Consequently we lost. I stress we because a host of issues remain unresolved.
Elections are a bit like football grand finals where the fever builds and then ebbs away however in the case of Inverell and New England after this election, people are still talking about what could and should be. Solutions require different levels of government however Inverell still requires an air service and rapid access to medical specialists.
That would be a transport ‘pinch point’ in mayoral language (The Inverell Times June 28) where 4 days before the election we learnt we were in need of a multimillion dollar round-about! In the area of schooling, as Inverell area principals are happy to advertise, our kids are receiving huge additional advantages through Gonski funding. This was well planned and is supported by the NSW Nationals but not by the returned Nationals Deputy PM.
This will mean Gonski funding that finally has started helping country kids will be wound back to nil-go figure! Other issues are clear-a ‘real NBN’ would be good for inland business, health and education. If we pursue this our future may indeed be great. Similarly, sustainable investment would create wealth and jobs through support of smart firms such as BOSS and Bindaree.
Action and interest in healthy soil, water and food has been growing strongly in Inverell-but there is no country party to promote it. On the same line we need signs of planned futures for; our young, our first Australians, our older citizens. Perhaps we need a ‘manifesto’ of sorts!
Congratulations to the large diverse group from all walks of life who came along to The Inverell Club last week. The hospitality of this venue is outstanding and it’s hard to beat a drink (or two) and that great warm fire. Thank you also to some of our newest residents for their great food from the Vietnamese bakery in Otho Street-thanks Phoung! Also our Glenn Morris organic pies were incredibly popular.
Many thanks to all because we are the people who live here and it would be nice to focus on our immediate needs that are voiced regularly.

Good sports!
I was watching teenage rugby league at Kamilaroi last week. The Holy Trinity under 16’s were defending when an opposition player spilled a ball in a tackle but quickly regathered. The teenage referee, who had been performing brilliantly, happened to glance down at his footing and missed the error.
Simultaneously the Trinity boys seemed to assess the slip up, said nothing and played on. Well done boys, families and coaches David Koch and Peter Eshman.

TAFE Demise
What is happening with our local TAFE- will the advent of the ‘Digital TAFE’ at Armidale see the demise of our local TAFE, I gather it will.
Adam, what’s good for Armidale may not be so good for us. However, can this new facility have the same teaching capability of face to face teaching?
Will the students have the necessary IT, motivation and time management skills required for this type of study? As I see it it is just another Service we will lose! We have lost so many services over the years. Is this progress? We need to fight to retain our services not just let them slip away.
