The Armidale School students Bonnie and Wally Bremner, George Lane, Molly McLachlan, Harry Tombs, Hugh Worsley and Alex Ziesemer were part of a team of 124 runners from TAS to hit the road in what is now the largest fun run of its type in the world.
“It was extremely enjoyable, a great experience to be able to run with your mates,” George said. He crossed the line in 1:28:21, about a 30 minute improvement on his 2014 time.
“The hardest bit was Heartbreak Hill but really, it’s like a party on the move, with lots of music and a great atmosphere.”
Running her first City to Surf, Bonnie Bremner was pleased to come in under the two hour mark. “It was a big effort but it was so rewarding to finish it. It’s exciting to be part of something that is so big, but helps so many different causes through the fundraising,” she said.
The event is part of a school award called the TAS Triple Crown, for those students who complete it, the 2km Coffs Harbour Ocean Swim and the 111km overnight Hawkesbury Canoe Classic during their time at the school. It was part of charity fundraising by the TAS student body who have raised almost $5000 this year to purchase two beds for the palliative care unit at Armidale Hospital.
