“We’re just preparing things now and we’ll start getting organised,” Hawks president Gary Lavender said.
“I think the AFL are playing there Saturday, and I guess when they’re finished, we’ll get things up and running,”
A grade will clash with the determined Macintrye Warriors who rose victorious after a heavily physical game against the Ashford Roosters on Sunday at the Boggabilla grounds, and the Hawks are cautiously ready.
“I don’t think we’re feeling overconfident, you never can you know?” Lavender said.
“As I always said, it’s a different competition when the finals start, it’s a different ballgame, the tempo steps another level and we’ll prepare. We’ll just prepare as normal, and get in there and do our best.”

The Hawks had already nailed down their places in A grade and the under 18 side, but sent their women’s league tag and reserved to Boggabilla on Sunday for a chance at defending all four grades.
Despite an arm wrestle in the reserves, they did not return with the rose, and left the grounds with a 22-34 loss and four tires disallowed.
“Just officials overruling it, but you’ve just got to go with the flow,” Lavender said. “The Moree Boomerangs coach came up and said we should have won it, but anyway, that’s passed now, we’ve put that behind us, and unfortunately for the lads, that’s that season ended.
“But it was a great game, to and fro, and anyway, good luck to the Moree Boomerangs; they came out victors.”
The Hawks women were also unsuccessful, facing what proved to be crushing performance by the Moree Boars who dominated the game with a 36-nil score at the siren.
“They were in the game, but they were just outclassed to be honest with you. Moree Boars, they just came out and just fired on the day, and a credit to the Moree Boars,” Lavender said.
The Grand Final Action kicks off at 10am, Sunday, August 27 at Varley Oval with the women’s grade Boars facing the Roosters. Following will be the junior Roosters against the Hawks, then reserve grade Boomerangs meet the Boars, and finally the Hawks clash with the Warriors.
